Hawthorn will kick-off its 2013 campaign with NAB Cup matches in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania in late February.

The Club will begin its preparations for the 2013 AFL season with a triangular series against Gold Coast Suns and Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium on Saturday 23 February.

The fixture is good news for Queensland-based Hawks fans who will see Hawthorn play in their state for the first time since its first clash against the Suns in 2011.

Hawthorn did not travel to Queensland in 2012, and February’s pre-season match will be just the third time the Hawks have ventured to the sunshine state since 2008.

Victorians won’t have to wait too long to get a glimpse of the Hawthorn of 2013 either, with the team scheduled to face Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Friday 1 March.

The match could be Brian Lake’s first hit out against his old side, after he was recruited to Hawthorn on the first day of the AFL’s trade period.

The Hawks will then travel to its second home, Tasmania, to take on Richmond in the final match of the scheduled pre-season fixture.

The match will be a Saturday afternoon treat for fans on Saturday 9 March.

The game against the Tigers is a great result for Tasmanian fans who haven’t seen Hawthorn battle Richmond at Aurora Stadium since 2006.

That match holds the attendance record at the stadium, attracting 20,971 fans.
