Prospect beat Kings Meadows
Kings Meadows High School travelled to Prospect High School for their long awaited clash.
The first quarter was goal for goal with Prospect not taking advantage of the windy conditions. Some sharp shooting by Kings Meadows star forward Cody Weedon gave his team a slight lead and huge momentum going into the first break.
Prospect came out strongly after the break, managing to get the first two centre clearances of the quarter. Prospect’s Dylan Riely and Zane Allen dominated possession but failed to help their team capitalise on the scoreboard. Kings Meadows with the wind behind them began to kick away and quickly took control of the match heading into the long break with a formidable lead.
Stirring words from Coach Stephen Walley excited the Prospect boys as they came out firing with a strong wind behind them, kicking the first two of the quarter. Extremely wet and windy conditions affected the flow of play greatly and made the match a sluggish affair. But, just like in the second quarter, Kings Meadows finished the quarter in front by kicking some late goals and looked sure of victory as they would be kicking with the wind.
Slow starts to the last quarter lead the enthusiastic onlookers to believe that the underdogs, Kings Meadows were going to steal it. But, a few quick goals by Prospects star Nick Price and Ben Nichols showed why Prospect were the reigning champs and top of the table favorites. Some brilliant running work by Lyndon Hampton lead a brave and triumphant come from behind win that only a classy, champion team could manage.
