Savage's camp diary
Shane Savage reports from Devonport as Hawthorn continues its Tasmanian Community Camp
It's my second day here along with Josh Gibson, Max Bailey, Jarryd Morton, Brad Sewell, Liam Shiels, Jordan Williams, Sam Menegola and Tom Schneider and it's a really great little town.
Thankfully we didn't have to get on any planes today because I don't think big Max Bailey is ready for that yet.
Myself and the big fella jumped on a small eight-seater yesterday and headed to King Island to take part in some community activities.
The weather has been a bit rugged here so when we were flying through the clouds, we were getting thrown about a fair bit and I reckon Maxie was looking for a parachute at one stage.
But I was really impressed with the place when we got there. We went for a walk and had a bit of a kick around with the locals and I loved it. I seriously reckon I could see myself retiring there one day.
We kicked off today with a light run and it was great to get out and have a bit of a look at the area.
Our days are always pretty full down here and this one was no exception. After the run we got right into 'Walk with a Hawk,' which is a community activity we took part in as part of Devonport City Council's BeActive program.
It was a really good turn out for the wander around a new walking track that finished with a few footy drills with the kids at the end of the trail. I always enjoy having a bit of a laugh with the kids and this was a lot of fun.
The lads hit Subway for lunch after that and I smashed my favourite foot-long roast chicken on Italian herb and cheese. I used to be able to eat two of them, but not anymore. I don't know what happened.
Then it was off to Burnie footy club about 45 minutes away for another clinic, but the weather has been a bit bleak down here so we were forced inside.
Dinner was thanks to the Devonport Football Club and it was great to have a steak and swap a few stories with the local lads.
We're off to Launceston tomorrow with our intra-club on Friday and I can't wait.
