Hawthorn Football Club has teamed up with the Eastern Football League (EFL), Channel 9, RoadSafe Eastern Metro, RACV, Victoria Police and ConnectEast, the owner and operator of Eastlink, to create a comprehensive program aimed at tackling the issue of safety on our roads.

The ‘Eastlink EFL Roadsafe Program’ spreads the road safety message to EFL players at their clubrooms, without lecturing them, through practical demonstrations, EastLink CCTV footage and discussions about safe driving decisions.

The program uses football clubs as the platform to deliver important road safety messages to the most at-risk age group of drivers (18-25 year old males). Drivers in the 18-25 age bracket are over-represented in road accident statistics, particularly in the east and south-east of Melbourne.

In Phase 2, ‘Get Your Head in the Game’, trained facilitators raise awareness amongst young drivers about the risks and consequences of dangerous driving with a DVD designed especially for its audience of at-risk males aged 18 - 25.

The Hawks are proud to support this important program with the DVD featuring Hawthorn players Cyril Rioli, Liam Shiels, Stephen Gilham, Kyle Cheney and Jordan Williams.

The Phase 2 component of the program sees facilitators visit a different EFL club every Thursday after training and will continue over the course of three years.

Liam Shiels is joined by the Filmtime crew along with ConnectEast and EFL staff after a shoot at Waverley Park.
