Woodward to miss season
Scans today revealed that lively midfielder Alex Woodward ruptured his ACL...
Woodward was sent for scans on his right knee this morning, which confirmed the season-ending injury.
He met with leading Orthopedic surgeon Dr Julian Feller this afternoon and will undergo a traditional knee reconstruction later this week.
It is a disappointing blow for the 18 year-old, who has impressed his coaches and teammates in his first pre-season at the Club.
“Alex’s work ethic has been fantastic and he’s found good form in the matches he’s played over pre-season,” Hawthorn General Manager of Football Operations Mark Evans said.
“He’s bitterly disappointed, but we’re confident he has a promising career ahead of him.
“Alex’s attitude in his approach to dealing with the injury and the prospect of surgery and rehabilitation is first class."
The second-gamer was helped from the field by Hawthorn trainers in the first quarter of the match at Aurora Stadium.
Woodward was drafted last season by the Hawks with selection number 53 overall.
