Keen to hear how the reserves are tracking?
We've got you covered here as Development Coach Andy Otten gives a rundown of each player who played in the weekend's scratch match against GWS.
Harry Pepper (Eight disposals, two tackles, two rebound 50s)
Pepper played as a defender for most of the game. He has been working on his defensive running patterns which we have seen major improvement which is pleasing. Pep had some great 1v1 contests which are a strength of his, and he’s working on finding more of the footy and helping out offensively.
Jacob Koschitzke (Six disposals, two marks, two tackles)
Kosi played down back for the first three quarters, and it was a tough day at the office for all the defenders as the ball was coming in hot. We moved him forward for the last quarter and he was able to get his hands on the ball and have three shots on goal which was pleasing.
Michael Hartley (15 disposals, five marks, five tackles, three rebound 50s, three inside 50s)
Harts has been one of our most consistent performers in these scrimmage games and is a valuable leader for this young side. He was thrown around during the game, as we were searching for a spark for the side. He started down back and then he went to play forward and even helped out in the ruck. Harts tried hard for the whole game, and could never question his effort or intent. He finished the game with 15 touches and was rewarded with a goal.
Changkuoth Jiath (13 disposals, six marks, four tackles, three rebound 50s)
CJ played his third game back from his injury and really looked sharp on the weekend. He was one of our shining lights from the game, never giving up and competing till the end. He was able to intercept balls with his aerial work and speed on the ground, and pleasingly his ball use was fantastic coming out of defence.
Dan Howe (Nine disposals, three marks, one tackle, four rebound 50s)
Howe was able to play his first game for the year. It was great to see him back after going through the hard yards in rehab for most of the year. Howe slotted into defence and his leadership was noticeable. Howey will be looking to string together a few games and build his match fitness to then get his chance at AFL level.
Jarman Impey (Seven disposals, four handball receives, two tackles, two inside 50s, two rebound 50s)
Jars had his third game back from his knee injury and he continues to build his confidence and fitness on his comeback to play AFL. Jars’ movement looked sharp, he had a few of his trademark running bounces through the middle of the ground, and some great defensive contests as he strives to put his hand up for an AFL game.
Ned Reeves (Six disposals, three marks, 20 hit-outs)
Reeves had to carry the full ruck load this week with Kegs not playing, and held his own in there. His craft work continues to improve, with the connection with his fellow mids looking sharp. Reeves competed hard all game, finishing with 20 hit outs.
Finn Maginness (13 disposals, six handball receives, seven tackles, three inside 50s, one goal)
Finn didn’t have the offensive impact he would have liked, but we are seeing improvements in his running patterns that will hold him in good stead for the future. Finn is one of our hardest workers, and he competed hard in the contest, finishing with seven tackles.
James Cousins (25 disposals, nine handball receives, four marks, nine clearances, seven inside 50s)
Cuzzy was our highest possession winner for the game, finishing with 25 touches. His inside stoppage work was a highlight, having a team-high nine clearances for the game. He worked hard all game, with eight handball receives and seven inside 50s. Cuzzy has been one of our most reliable performers in these scrimmage games.
Harry Jones (23 disposals, eight clearances, five handball receives, four tackles, five inside 50s, one goal)
Jonesy worked tirelessly all game, he has a big heart and never stops giving his all. Although not his best game, he still competed hard and finished with 23 touches and eight clearances. He again added to his goalkicking tally, finishing with a goal to his name.
Damon Greaves (12 disposals, eight handball receives, two marks, two goals)
Greava was able to play both wing and half-back positions for us during the game. Greava is new to the wing position and his willingness to learn has been fantastic. He was a consistent performer for us in Sydney, with his work-rate and attitude both first class.
Jackson Ross (19 disposals, eight handball receives, four marks, six inside 50s, one goal)
Rossy had a solid game for us on Friday. He managed to influence the game with his hard run and his neat ball skills. He finished the game with 19 disposals, six inside 50s and kicked a goal himself. Rossy has been focusing on his contested work and we can see that improving each week.
Emerson Jeka (Seven disposals, two marks)
It was a tough day for forwards with not much clean ball coming down, but Jeka still managed to compete hard and provide a contest. He has been diligent at learning the leading patterns, and we have seen improvement from the key forward each week.
Dylan Moore (18 disposals, five handball receives, four marks, three tackles, two inside 50s, two goals)
Moorey had a pretty solid game for us. He played both as a midfielder and up forward. He worked hard all game, trying to impact where he could. Moorey finished with 18 touches and kicked two goals, finishing off a great few games in Sydney for him.
Conor Nash (13 disposals, four marks, two clearances, two inside 50s, two goals)
Nashy had his second game back and looked sharper with his movement. He was able to play wing and half forward, and kicked an amazing goal in the last quarter. Nashy finished with two goals for the game, and his contest work had improved from last week which is a good sign.
Paul Puopolo (24 disposals, seven handball receives, five tackles, eight clearances, five inside 50s, two goals)
Poppy had a very solid game for us. He finished with 24 disposals, eight clearances and five tackles and two goals. Poppy worked tirelessly all game, and has set a great example for the younger players. His attitude and commitment to this side has been outstanding, and he should be very proud of the way he has gone about these scrimmage games.
Oliver Hanrahan (Nine disposals, five marks, one clearance)
Oli played most of the game swapping between midfield and forward. He wasn’t able to impact the game like he did last week, but still fought hard to the end.
