Ben McEvoy has been voted by fans as Hawthorn’s most valuable player in Round 14, presented by United Petroleum.
Is there anything this man can’t do? Last week, Ben McEvoy shifted into the ruck and managed 17 hit-outs to advantage - the most of any player this season. Yesterday, he moved back into defence and denied many a forward foray from the Bombers, finishing the game with six contested marks - the most of any Hawk this season.
Even when the Essendon onslaught of goals came in the second half, McEvoy didn’t lower his colours.
Along with his contested marking dominance, he also had a game-high 12 intercept possessions - five more than the next best player on the ground (Changkuoth Jiath, seven).
“Look, I tried hard,” McEvoy said modestly when asked about his performance.
“I do enjoy playing (down back), it’s something a bit different so it’s a good challenge, but unfortunately we just weren’t up to it tonight.”
Despite combatting limited team success while finding his way in a new position, McEvoy has continued his ever-reliable form deep into 2020.
What a player he is.
