In an otherwise grim night, young defender Jack Scrimshaw continued to fight gallantly as his side went down to the Crows by 35 points.
He has been given the nod by fans as the Round 15 MVP, presented by United Petroleum.
Scrimshaw was a stoic force in defence, amassing 22 disposals, including a game-high six intercept possessions, along with a team-high six marks.
He registered 521 metres gained, a statistic that would place him up amongst the league’s leaders (Sydney’s Jake Lloyd currently averages the highest figure in this area with 526m).
Scrimshaw has been a consistent performer for the Hawks since breaking into the senior side in Round 3 (albeit with a short hiatus due to injury in Rounds 6 and 7). However, the last fortnight has seen Scrimshaw step up to become one of Hawthorn’s most important defenders, particularly in the absence of James Sicily (ACL).
He was one of seven players under the age of 22 in Hawthorn’s Round 15 team, and is sure to play a critical role as the Hawks look to ascend back up the ladder in the coming season.
