Tom Mitchell has been voted by fans as the Round 16 Most Valuable Player, presented by United Petroleum.

As he so often does, Mitchell hunted the footy in Hawthorn's narrow loss to the Saints, finishing with a game-high 27 disposals, to go with a goal and seven score involvements.

His goal came in the dying minutes of the game, trimming the margin to 11 points and giving the Hawks one final sniff. While the victory wasn't to be in the end, Mitchell's effort and endeavour across the four quarters couldn't be faulted.

Despite his season not receiving the plaudits awarded in his 2018 Brownlow or 2017 Best and Fairest winning campaigns, the midfielder has been a quiet but consistent achiever.

He has averaged 25 disposals and five tackles in the reduced time format, and only dropping below 20 disposals on one occasion this year.

He's also added another string to his bow, taking on vice captaincy responsibility, and shouldering the captaincy duties on Sunday in the absence of Ben Stratton.

Mitchell was duly supported by a band of youngsters, with James Cousins (22 disposals), Will Day (21) and James Worpel (17 disposals before leaving the ground injured in the third quarter) all putting in impressive showings.

The Hawks now turn their attention to the Western Bulldogs, whom they'll take on next Sunday in the Hawks' penultimate game of the season.
