Having been one of the most durable players in the competition over the past decade, Luke Breust found himself in what was somewhat foreign territory this year when he missed four games due to a broken jaw that required surgery.

Helping the Hawks to a 3-1 record before being sidelined, Breust returned in the Round 9 win over Carlton.

From that point, he didn’t miss a game, performing strongly enough to finish third in the club’s goal kicking tally behind Peter Crimmins Medallist Jack Gunston and Chad Wingard.

Impressively, despite the near 20 per cent drop in game time, his tackling numbers were almost identical to his career average – highlighting his effort and commitment this season.

The three-time premiership star also booted the 400th goal of his career this year, becoming just the ninth Hawk to do so.

The 29-year-old’s best game of the season came in Round 18 against Gold Coast when he gathered 17 touches, four clearances, three marks and two goals.
