His career to this point:
Taken with Pick 76 in the 2016 national draft, Lewis spent his first season in the brown and gold honing his craft with Box Hill. Playing 13 games with the VFL side, the Eastern Ranges product booted 10 goals whilst also spending time in defence and in the ruck. The 198cm talent then made his senior debut in Round 9 the following year and featured once more in 2018. Lewis took that AFL level exposure onboard in the 2019 pre-season which saw his game move to another level that year, playing 12 games and booting 20 goals. As Jarryd Roughead announced his retirement at the end of that season, Lewis was chosen as his rightful successor in the famous number two jumper.
2020 form:
The 2020 season saw Lewis take on a greater responsibility in Hawthorn’s forward line. More often being the target of opposition side’s number one defender, Lewis didn’t quite reach the heights of the year previous. Nevertheless, the promising signs remained with Hawks supporters hanging their hats on the 22-year-old's final month of the season where he averaged a goal a game.
A look towards 2021:
The 2020 campaign will undoubtedly be looked back on as a year of great development for Lewis. Quickly impressing teammates and coaches alike with his shape and fitness upon return this pre-season, the signs are already looking promising for the key forward next year. Lewis will be looking to continue to grow into his role as one of the Hawks’ key spearheads in 2021, collaborating with reigning Peter Crimmins Medallist Jack Gunston, Luke Breust and Chad Wingard.
