Hawthorn will again contest the Alec Campbell Cup when it takes on Adelaide at UTAS Stadium on ANZAC Day.

The cup was named in honour of Alec Campbell – the final surviving Gallipoli veteran who was born and raised in Launceston and passed away in 2002, aged 103.

Campbell joined the 15th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force at the tender age of 16, earning the nickname ‘The Kid’ during his training in Hobart. He landed in ANZAC Cove in Gallipoli in August 2015, where he risked his life carrying ammunition, stores and water to the trenches.

This Sunday will mark the first time the Hawks have contested the match on the 25th of April since 2010, in what is sure to be a special occasion for the club and its Tasmanian crowd.

Hawthorn and Adelaide will honour ANZAC Day traditions, with a rendition of the last post to be played at UTAS Stadium, followed by a moment of silence to remember the courage and sacrifice made by the Australian and New Zealand armed forces.

The Hawks currently retain the Alec Campbell Cup, having last won it in 2019, defeating Carlton in ANZAC Round by five points.
