Kyle Hartigan has been handed a three-week sanction by the match review officer for striking Carlton's Sam Walsh during the fourth quarter of Hawthorn's Round 10 loss.
Based on available evidence, the incident was assessed as careless, high contact and high impact.
As it is Hartigan's first offence, the incident was classified as a three-week sanction.
Should he accept with an early plea, the suspension will see the key back ruled out for the upcoming matches against Gold Coast (Round 11), Sydney (Round 13) and Essendon (Round 14).
Hawthorn will confirm its course of action in the coming days.
