Hawthorn Football Club Women’s team

Updated February 2024

The Hawks have been playing in the VFLW competition since 2017, providing an extensive pathway for players in the Eastern Region and beyond to progress to the elite level of football. After just one season in the competition, the team experienced immediate success, winning the 2018 premiership. Their next bit of history would come in 2019 when AFLW premiership coach and lifelong Hawthorn supporter Bec Goddard was appointed as Senior Coach. She would coach the side across two seasons and be part of a significant milestone as Hawthorn became the first club in VFL/ AFL history to appoint an all-female coaching panel. Esteemed coach Cherie O’Neill then took over for the next two seasons and yielded great results, with 17 players drafted to AFLW under her tutelage. In 2023, the Hawks’ VFLW license was transferred back to Box Hill, with the club making finals for a third time. 2024 will see a Michael Ericson take over as coach with an exciting season ahead.
