Last time we met
Hawthorn (92) defeated Brisbane (80) - Round 20, 2021
Hawthorn produced a stunning 12-point upset of a finals-bound Brisbane outfit at UTAS Stadium.
The Hawks intensity was at a far higher level than the Lions for three quarters and four unanswered goals in the opening term laid the platform for the win.
Brisbane charged home late, kicking eight goals to one in the final term, but ran out of time to erase a margin that had blown out to 53 points before three-quarter time.
Wingard (32 disposals) was outstanding all day, while Conor Nash excelled in the midfield, tallying 23 disposals and seven clearances.
Jaeger O'Meara and Tom Mitchell combined for 69 disposals and 14 clearances, while James Worpel was another strong contributor.
Our last game
Richmond (117) defeated Hawthorn (94)
Richmond survived a late comeback by Hawthorn to storm home as 23-point winners last Saturday at the MCG.
The Tigers were the best team for most of the game, but left the door ajar for a Hawthorn upset late before Jason Castagna and Shai Bolton put the game to bed with two minutes to play.
The Hawks led by a kick at quarter-time and then kicked the first three goals of the second quarter to open up a 25-point lead, looking unstoppable when Jacob Koschitzke kicked two goals in two-and-a-half minutes.
But just when Hawthorn had all the momentum, the Tigers kicked two extraordinary goals out of nowhere.
From there, Richmond was rarely troubled, and the Hawks were unable to get on top.
