Star defender James Sicily has finished in the top 15 performers for the home-and-away season according to the coaches.
Sicily polled votes for the AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award in 12 of the 22 matches he played this year to finish with 55 votes.
He received the most votes of any Hawk this year and finished equal 11th overall in the league alongside Richmond’s Tom Lynch and Sydney’s Chad Warner.
Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver and Gold Coast’s Touk Miller were crowned the overall winners, with 98 votes each.
Sicily, who returned this season after more than a year on the sidelines due to injury, was a key contributor in the Hawthorn’s 2022 campaign.
Leading the charge in the Hawks defence, the 27-year-old played all 22 games and averaged 23.8 disposals, 6.6 spoils and 2.6 intercept marks per game.
Newcombe was the next Hawk to follow with 44 coaches’ votes, polling in eight games.
The youngster polled a maximum 10 votes against Brisbane in Round 10 when he recorded 27 disposals and six tackles.
Dylan Moore was the third-best Hawk in the coaches’ eyes, finishing with 28 votes for the season.
The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
