With exactly a month to go until the draft kicks off, we’ve put together a list of all the information you need to know including dates and selections.

 Key dates

  • Delisted free agency period: Thursday November 3 to Wednesday November 9
  • AFL Draft - First round: Monday November 28
  • AFL Draft - Second and subsequent rounds: Tuesday November 29
  • Pre-Season and Rookie draft: Wednesday November 30

How it works

After a busy trade window, clubs have shifted their focus onto the November 28-29 draft by assessing their available list spots and the live picks they will likely use.

At this stage, a minimum of 54 picks and maximum of 61 selections is expected.

There is still change possible to the draft order given the draft picks trade window is now open and will run through to November 15. Delisted free agents will also soon be able to be signed by clubs, which would also change available list spots and open picks.

You can watch each pick live as it happens throughout the night on AFL.com.au, and follow @hawthornfc across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for all brown and gold draft news.

What picks does Hawthorn have?

Hawthorn will enter the draft for the third year in a row with a top 10 selection after taking defender Denver Grainger-Barras with Pick 6 in 2021 and midfielder Josh Ward with Pick 7 in 2022.

As it stands, the Hawks hold two picks in the top 25 – 6 and 24. The club also holds picks 41, 48, 50, 52 and 65.

Will Hawthorn go into the draft with these picks?

Not necessarily. All AFL clubs are still able to complete pick swaps and strike deals in the lead-up to – and during – the two-day national draft next month.

What the club has said

“Last year we were really clear that we wanted to invest in the development of our younger players. Premiership teams are not built overnight, and this is about building our next phase of talent. Being able to secure further picks has always been a priority for us. To be holding a number of picks heading into next month’s draft, we feel we are set up extremely well to be able to able to add further top-end talent to our list." - Hawthorn's National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie.

Who are the best players at this year's NAB AFL Draft?

There are a number of quality tall prospects headlining this year's draft crop, with midfielder Will Ashcroft, who is tied to Brisbane as a father-son pair, among them. Tall forward Aaron Cadman has enjoyed a stunning season in the NAB League, while midfielder George Wardlaw and defender Jedd Busslinger are other quality key-position prospects.
