The Box Hill Hawks will have four representatives travelling to Adelaide this weekend to play in the AAMI State Games.
The famous rivalry between the SANFL and VFL will reignite this weekend with men’s and women’s representative teams to clash in South Australia as part of the AFL’s Gather Round.
From the Hawks VFLW side, new recruit Maddi Torpey will don the Big V in the inaugural clash.
Torpey joined Box Hill from the Sandringham Zebras, the young aerial ruck made a fast impression in the brown and gold, being named in the side’s leadership group. She’s had strong showings in the Hawks preseason matches to date in 2025.
The men's team will see three Hawks in Ethan Stanley, Kye Declase and Sam Durdin line up for Victoria, while Hawks skipper Callum Porter will be the travelling emergency.
Stanley returned to the Box Hill Hawks this season after a stint on Fremantle’s AFL list and has impressed in his two games so far this season. He finished with 18 disposals and a game-high three clearances in Round 1 and in Round 2 he booted two goals from 18 disposals.
Declase played his 100th VFL game in just his second outing with the Hawks after making the move from Werribee, where he booted his 100th goal at the level in the same match. He managed 25 disposals in Round 1, and two goals and 13 disposals in Round 2 for Box Hill.
Durdin has yet to pull on the brown and gold stripes since joining the Hawks, but as a former AFL-listed Blue, the defender’s intercepting and contested marking ability are well-known and sure to be an asset to the Victorian side.
It won’t only be players from the Hawks nest representing the Big V this weekend, with Box Hill Hawks Senior Coach and Hawthorn Development Coach Zane Littlejohn spearheading the coaching panel for the VFL side.
As well as Box Hill Specialist Coach and Hawthorn AFLW Backline Coach Steph Binder joining the VFLW coaching panel as an assistant coach.
The inaugural women’s clash will take place on Friday 11 April from 6.30pm (local time) at Alberton Oval. With the men’s sides playing off at Tanunda Recreation Park in the Barossa on Saturday 12 April from 2.45pm (local time).
