Hawthorn young gun Connor Macdonald has committed his future to the club, putting pen to paper on a contract extension to keep him in the brown and gold until at least the end of 2025.
The 20-year-old inked the new deal in only his second year at the top level, after being drafted by the Hawks with Pick 26 in the 2021 national draft.
Since making his debut in the opening round of the 2022 season, the smooth-moving Haileybury College product has played 23 of a possible 25 games, carving out an incredibly consistent beginning to his AFL career.
Honing his craft as a forward, before being injected through the midfield, Macdonald has continued his development as a dual threat for the youthful Hawks, averaging 13.7 disposals and almost four score involvements per game.
Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said Macdonald’s signature was an important piece of the club’s future.
“Connor keeps going from strength-to-strength in his development, and this deal is a testament to his investment in our football club,” McKenzie said.
“Standing at 185cm tall, Connor has demonstrated he’s a difficult match-up in the front half with super goal sense and a strong work-rate.
“With great footy smarts and clean skills, we believe Connor continues to show further scope on being able to play more midfield minutes as his career progresses.
“Connor has a very bright future in the brown and gold, and we are confident he can be a top-line contributor for this football club for many years to come.”
