Hawthorn has locked away another key piece of its exciting list rebuild, with young gun Cam Mackenzie committing to the club for a further two seasons.
The double-year deal ensures the talented teenager, who was a top-ten pick in the most national draft, will remain in the brown and gold until at least the end of 2025.
Mackenzie made an immediate impact at the Hawks during his first pre-season, before being selected to make his AFL debut in Round 1.
Collecting 18 touches in his first game, the smooth-moving midfielder showed poise and balance beyond his years, going at 80% efficiency, which included nine contested disposals and three clearances.
Through six appearances at the top level this season the Sandringham Dragon product has averaged 14.3 possessions and four tackles per game.
Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said the exciting youngster represents an important part of what the club is building.
“Seeing the commitment Cam has made is really pleasing, we are very confident he has a bright future here at Hawthorn,” McKenzie said.
“Cam of course was a highly touted junior with an elite ball-winning and kicking ability but what’s really stood out since joining the Hawks is his work-ethic and composure, which is impressive for a 19-year-old.
“With our list’s young age profile, we absolutely see Cam establishing himself as a key cog in our midfield for long time ahead for the brown and gold.”
