Box Hill has suffered its first loss since Round 8, going down to Williamstown by three points at Box Hill City Oval.

Both teams struggled to score early on, with the Hawks breaking through for the only major of the first half through Gabby Collingwood at the midway point of the second quarter.

Collingwood continued to pepper the goals at the start of the third term but could only manage two behinds before the Seagulls broke through for two game-changing goals. 

Box Hill fought back in the final term with Akayla Peterson reducing the eight-point three-quarter-time margin to one point with a crucial goal. 

Mietta Kendall then stretched the lead out to five with 12 minutes to play in the game.

Just three minutes later, Williamstown would strike again and hold off the Hawks for the rest of the game, claiming a three-point win on enemy territory.

It was a shame for the Hawks who had dominated most statistical categories, winning kicks by 22, handballs by two, marks by 44, tackles by 10 and hit-outs by 37. 

The stats that mattered were inside 50, with the Seagulls winning the count by eight and the Hawks struggling with inaccuracy, kicking 3.8 for the day. 

There were positive signs from young midfielder Grace McRae though, who had 19 disposals to go with eight tackles and four marks.

In defence, it was Matilda Van Berkel who led the way with a game-high 20 disposals. 

Grace Matser dominated in the ruck with 42 hit-outs while Nadia von Bertouch took a game-high seven marks.

Co-vice-captain Jordan Mifsud applied her signature pressure once again, laying 16 tackles to go with 15 disposals.

Box Hill's next contest is on Saturday 17 June against Geelong at Deakin University.
