Last time we met
Hawthorn (70) defeated Gold Coast (63) - Round 21, 2022
Hawthorn held off a final-quarter Suns fightback to surge to a seven-point win at UTAS Stadium in Round 21 last year.
Former Hawk Jack Gunston booted five goals in what was former skipper Ben McEvoy’s 250th milestone match.
The Hawks booted the opening goal and never relinquished the lead from there, quelling the Suns' chances in the opening term when they had the advantage of a strong breeze behind them.
Despite leading at each change, the Hawks did have some nervous moments late with Gold Coast virtually setting up camp in its forward-half.
Trailing by 17 points at three-quarter time, the Suns kicked the opening two goals of the fourth term and got within a goal with about five minutes left on the clock but was left to rue several missed opportunities in the final quarter.
Our last game
Hawthorn (98) defeated Brisbane (73) - Round 13
The Hawks run the legs off Brisbane to storm to an impressive win over the Lions with a thrilling 25-point triumph at the MCG prior to the bye.
After trailing by 17 points at half-time, Hawthorn flipped the game with a dominant six-goal third quarter and ran out easy 15.8 (98) to 11.7 (73) winners.
It was the Hawks fourth win of the season – and third from their past four – and came on the back of a daring, high-handball, brand of attack.
Sicily was instrumental with 32 disposals, while Mitch Lewis led things at the other end of the ground with four goals.
Jai Newcombe (28, five clearances and three goals assists) and James Worpel (30 with five clearances) helped change the midfield momentum in the second half, while youngster Connor Macdonald (28, two goals and three assists) played arguably the best game of his short career.
