Hawthorn Football Club has today appointed Ashley Klein as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Klein steps into the role after serving as Hawthorn’s Chief Commercial Officer since 2018 and has been the Interim Chief Executive Officer since May.
Having held key positions at Collingwood Football Club (General Manager of Partnerships and Sales) and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (Venue Operations Manager) across the past two decades, Klein carries a wealth of knowledge and experience, whilst possessing strong and widespread relationships throughout the industry.
The unanimous decision to appoint Klein follows a rigorous and extensive process led by recruitment firm Six Degrees Executive and a Selection Committee. The Committee comprised of Chair and current Director Owen Wilson, President Andy Gowers, Vice-President Katie Hudson, Executive General Manager of People, Culture and Community Sally McNeilly, and former Hawthorn Captain Chris Langford.
Hawthorn President Andy Gowers said Klein was the clear standout from a strong field of candidates who applied for the role.
“Having carefully interviewed and considered a number of impressive applicants, Ash emerged as the clear choice,” Gowers said.
“Ash has long demonstrated his skills as a well-rounded professional, which saw him guide the club tremendously well during the past few months, after stepping up as Chief Executive Officer on an interim basis.
“We saw him excel enormously during his time as interim CEO, in all areas of the club, showcasing a strong ability to deliver, both on and off-field.
“But perhaps one of Ash’s strongest attributes is his strength of character, he’s a terrific person with a proven track record of developing and leading others to be at their best.”
Newly appointed Hawthorn Chief Executive Officer Ash Klein said he was humbled upon hearing the news.
“I am enormously honoured to be awarded this opportunity, Hawthorn has an incredibly rich history, and it is a privilege to help lead this club on its exciting journey ahead,” Klein said.
“I have been a life-long Hawthorn fan and being able to guide the club into the future is something I am extremely proud of.
“The brown and gold faithful are the most passionate and loyal supporters in the league, and I am committed to continue making our members and fans proud of the club they support.”
