New Hawthorn recruit Eliza West is set to turn heads in 2024 as an impressive addition to the club’s midfield.

The 26-year-old hails from Melbourne and brings premiership experience to the Hawks.

But it’s not just premiership success that she brings to the club, highlighting what the brown and gold faithful can look out for next year.

“I’m an in-and-under midfielder,” West said.

“I love to go in for those hard, contested balls and get them out to those outside players.

“Hopefully they see plenty of that and plenty of tackling and grit when I play.”

The star midfielder is already counting down the days until Round 1 next year, expressing how excited she is to play in the brown and gold.

“I’m just stoked to be here,” West said.

“It’s super exciting and I just can’t wait for next season and to get stuck into pre-season.

“What a great group to be playing with and coming into.

“They’re young and thriving off their environment and they just have lots of potential.”

Similarly to fellow recruit Sherriff, West is looking forward to learning as much as possible from Best and Fairest winner Emily Bates.

“I can’t wait to learn so much from her, I’m going to be a sponge,” West said.

“She’s just so experienced and such a great role player so I can’t wait to listen to what she has to say.”

Not only is West a talented footballer, but she also grew up plying her trade across a couple of other sports.

“I grew up playing basketball and a bit of touch football as well,” she said.

“Then I went overseas to America - I played college basketball there for four years.

“When I got back in 2020, I got an opportunity to play football and I haven’t looked back since.

“I don’t play basketball anymore, just straight footy and I’m loving every bit of it.”
