Hawthorn has finalised its AFLW coaching panel ahead of the 2024 season.

Senior Coach Daniel Webster spearheads the talented group, alongside Midfield Coach Keegan Brooksby, Forwards Coach Mitch Cashion, and Backline Coach Steph Binder.

Webster brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the top job, having most recently overseen the Brisbane Lions AFLW midfield group for the past two seasons, which culminated in an AFLW premiership last year.

Boasting more than a decade of NEAFL and State League experience, most recently leading Aspley Hornets to back-to-back QAFL premierships, Webster has also enjoyed stints coaching the Brisbane Lions Academy and Queensland State Academies.

Brooksby takes the reins of the midfield group having been an instrumental figure in Hawthorn’s AFLW program since its inception, initially as Strategy and Opposition coach before becoming Head of Development last year.

The former Gold Coast, West Coast and Hawthorn AFL player previously led the Hawks Academy Program in addition to building his recruiting skillset at VFLW level. He now takes on his dual role as Midfield Coach and AFLW List Manager this year.

Cashion’s appointment as forwards coach comes after previously serving as Hawthorn’s AFLW list manager across the club’s first two seasons.
Along with a strong eye for talent, Cashion has experience in player development through his role as Hawthorn Academy Manager, in addition to coaching Scotch College in the APS Competition.

Three-time time premiership player Jack Gunston will support Cashion and the forwards in his role as specialist coach.

Binder joins the brown and gold as backline coach after most recently being an AFLW development coach at Collingwood.

Prior to that, Binder led North Melbourne’s VFLW side as senior coach for two seasons after previously playing in the league for the Southern Saints.

Binder has also played a key role in leading the next generation of AFLW stars through her roles as an assistant coach with both the Vic Country and Dandenong Stingrays Under-19 sides.

Hawthorn General Manager of Football Operations Max Bailey said the club was pleased with the AFLW coaching panel assembled to lead the group in 2024.

“Led by Daniel Webster, this coaching group has a great blend of talent and experience that we believe can get the best out of our players this season and beyond,” Bailey said.

“With an exciting new game plan and great progress over the pre-season, we have great confidence in the environment they are leading, which will best position our players for the ultimate success.”
