Hawthorn Senior Coach Daniel Webster expressed his pride as his team rallied to a nine-point win against Fremantle on Sunday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.

Coming off a four-day break and suffering three injuries during the game, Webster spoke about the character of the group while addressing the media post-game.

We summarised the key points from his press conference below.

On how proud he was of the team

"Absolutely. I mean, a four-day break, you fly across the country, three go down in the first quarter and to gut it out and run it out, I'm incredibly proud of the players and the staff and everyone involved in the program to be able to just fight through it and get a result off the back of it. It was an incredibly important win for us."

On his 3QT message

"It was more so built around what we need to do to win but also just get them to think about how good it would feel if we held on. It's obviously a hard thing but you have to push through it. There's a bit of that but we also have to win the game. We can't sit back and try and save it, we had to score to win it. It was pretty simple."

On injuries to Mackenzie Eardley, Kristy Stratton and Laura Stone

"Two rolled ankles, we'll get them looked at during the week. Mack's got a sore neck. That was more precautionary given the nature of the injury but I think she was feeling reasonably well once she was taken off the ground. We'll just get a scan and look at it during the week."

On how much confidence the Hawks take out of the win

"It gives you confidence in terms of you can face adversity and still get a result. For a relatively newish program to get reward and validation for what you do and you understand that you can win in different ways, I think that's where the confidence comes from."

On Jess Vukic's sealer

"Well, you need to make plays, don't you? To Jess's credit, she had a big job with no rotations really in the second half and playing ruck/ forward and to just stay in the contest and make something happen was amazing. Then to finish the work off the back of it was exceptional for a young player."

On Tilly Lucas-Rodd and the Hawthorn backline

"Til's been amazing. I spoke last week on their impact on the group and the leadership they provide behind the ball. We know Til's a really good user and works incredibly hard so they just complement the rest of the backline. As a collective, I thought our backline was insane today. I thought they were really, really good. They were very strong and really organised behind the ball off very limited rotations. It was a really good effort by the entire group down there."
