Our last game
Hawthorn (74) defeated West Coast Eagles (8) in Week 7
Hawthorn strengthened its claims for a top-four spot with a 66-point win over West Coast last Saturday afternoon.
The relentless work of Emily Bates (22 disposals, eight clearances, two goals), Eliza West (21 disposals, nine clearances, one goal), and Lucy Wales (12 disposals, 25 hit-outs) around the contest for Hawthorn set up the win at the source.
McDonagh (20 disposals, one goal) was the key to unlocking Hawthorn's attack, with her athleticism able to worry West Coast's key backs, while Gilroy's (13 disposals, three goals) speed and long-kicking made the Hawks unpredictable to the Eagles.
Last time we met
Hawthorn (33) defeated by GWS Giants (34) in Round 8, 2022
GWS managed a crucial behind with just four seconds remaining in the game to take a one-point victory over Hawthorn.
The margin stayed within single figures throughout a gripping contest that seemed set for a draw before the Giants gathered a loose ball inside forward 50 and managed to score.
Tilly Lucas-Rodd overcame a slow start to be pivotal in the second half, gathering 18 disposals.
Young gun Jasmine Fleming was also influential with 11 clean touches.
Lucy Wales dominated with 24 hit-outs, Jenna Richardson had a game-high nine intercept possessions, while Lucas-Rodd and Aileen Gilroy had an equal game-high eight tackles.
