Hawthorn has committed to re-drafting Jack Gunston in next month’s AFL rookie draft after the 33-year-old was delisted on Thursday.

The move ensures the club operates within AFL rules in the utilisation of picks in the upcoming draft period national draft after announcing a pair of Category B rookie signings on Wednesday.

Gunston is set to embark upon his 16th season at the top level in 2025, having played 260 games in a decorated career to date, which includes three premierships for the brown and gold.

In addition to his influence on the field, the former Peter Crimmins Medallist has been instrumental in mentoring the next generation of players at the club, whilst also recently taking up an AFLW coaching position.

Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said the list manoeuvre was made with the full support of Gunston.

“Ultimately this list move ensures the club is in the strongest position possible heading into the draft, which Jack was very supportive of,” McKenzie said.

“Jack’s approach to this list manoeuvre speaks to his selflessness and commitment to Hawthorn in wanting to put the club in the best position moving forward.”
