In a win for the brown and gold faithful, the Hawks Community Foundation’s industry-leading sensory space, The Inclusion Project, has been extended to all of Hawthorn’s home and away AFL games at the MCG.

Established in 2019 by the Hawks Community Foundation, The Inclusion Project has been the brains behind the sensory space offering at Hawthorn home games and events, providing a safe and supportive environment to cheer on the brown and gold without the overstimulation of large crowds and noise.

Following the success and positive feedback of sensory spaces at Hawthorn home games, The Inclusion Project participants can now visit the spaces in the MCG’s National Sports Museum at the Hawks’ MCG away games.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote accessibility and inclusion in Australian sport, ensuring that fans with sensory needs are not excluded from the excitement of the game.

As part of The Inclusion Project’s efforts, the organisation has recently partnered with Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne Vixens, South East Melbourne Phoenix and the Australian Open to deliver their popular sensory spaces.

What sets The Inclusion Project’s sensory spaces apart is that they are facilitated by world-class occupational therapists in consultation with Inclusion Project Officers who have lived experience of disability.

In 2024 alone, The Inclusion Project welcomed over 1500 visitors to its various sensory spaces and provided over 600 hours of meaningful disability employment, highlighting the significant impact of the growing program.
