WHEN Will Langford re-signed with the Hawks earlier this year, he talked about the highs and lows of football.
The 23-year-old knows all too well the rollercoaster that is AFL football.
In 2014 he was a breakout player in the Hawks premiership side. In 2015 he watched from the sidelines as his teammates again tasted the ultimate success.
Whilst the pain of missing out on the 2015 premiership drives Langford, the midfielder also finds motivation in the success of his teammates.
“The season just gone was quite frustrating for me and that’s something that motivates me,” said Langford.
“But it’s the team success that really motivates me. I love the footy club and whilst I was hurt a little bit by not being able to play in the grand final against the Eagles it’s still exciting to see your teammates and the whole club celebrate on the day.”
An injury interrupted season saw Langford unable to rediscover the consistency of 2014.
A corked calf saw him lose his spot ahead of Round 9, before a knee injury then sidelined the tough-as-nails utility for a month.
As the club embarks on their preseason camp in Mooloolaba, Langford says consistency is a key focus for his year ahead.
“I just need to get my body right and put together some good footy,” Langford said.
“My strength is probably my explosiveness and bursting from stoppages, so I just need to keep working on the little things and being able to feed my teammates on the outside from the stoppage.”
Whilst Langford’s own motivations are clear, he praised the Hawks newest recruits in driving the entire group throughout the preseason.
“We just keep getting excellent young men, not just footballers into the football club,” he said.
“They’re certainly hungry to be a part of the success that the club has achieved in the last few years and their determination to improve probably drives the whole group.”
