Hawthorn will take on St Kilda for the annual Blue Ribbon Cup this weekend.
Now in its 16th year, the Blue Ribbon Cup is played in memory of two Victorian Police Officers – Sergeant Gary Silk and Senior Constable Rodney Miller – who were killed in the line of duty in August 1998.
The Hawks and Saints will clash at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 4.40pm.
All players and officials will wear reflective blue and white chequered armbands as a mark of respect to the 159 Victoria Police officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their community and been killed in the line of duty.
Commemorative Blue Ribbon medals will be issued to all competing players at the conclusion of the match, and the Silk-Miller Medal will be presented to the player voted best on ground from each team by opposing club presidents.
Senior Constable Rodney Miller’s son Jimmy, who was only weeks old when his father was killed, will present the Blue Ribbon Cup to the winning captain.
