Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson said his side placed pressure on itself to match last week's impressive win over Collingwood.
The Hawks ultimately ran away 31-point victors over Fremantle on Saturday, leading at almost every moment of the match.
A satisfied Clarkson said he was proud of what his troops were able to serve up.
"We needed to back up," Clarkson told a press conference on Saturday.
"We hadn't won two games in a row for the year and I hope we don't stop just at that.
"We have the Cats next week and a really good opportunity to try to go three in a row."
Clarkson said the Hawks' ability to nullify Fremantle's strengths in the midfield and draw almost even in the clearance and contested ball count was integral in his side's win.
