Who, where and when: Collingwood at Victoria Park, May 18, 2:00pm
The last time these two teams met was in their 2018 semi final clash, where Hawthorn came away 11-point victors and secured its spot in the Grand Final.
The Pies were the ones to beat heading into the 2018 finals series finishing at the top of the ladder, but the Hawks were able to gain control of the game from the first siren and never lost the lead through all four quarters.
Despite this dominance in finals, Hawthorn experienced defeat against Collingwood in Round 5 going down by seven points at their home ground. The game was almost a complete reverse of the semi-final match, with Collingwood being in control from the get-go and holding onto the lead at every break.
The two teams will now meet this Saturday where Collingwood will host the Hawks at Victoria Park.
Jamiee Lambert, Collingwood's 2018 VFLW Best and Fairest recipient, will be a player to watch on Saturday. The midfielder is known for her presence around the ground, racking up a league-high 33 disposals in Round 1 against the Southern Saints.
The Hawks will also be competing against a familiar face in Mikala Cann, who was a Hawthorn 2018 premiership player. The 18-year-old was the youngest Hawk in the Grand Final and had a major impact on the win with 14 disposals and nine tackles. Cann made the move to Collingwood having been chosen by them at Pick 13 in the 2018 AFLW Draft.
Pip Pescke will be a Hawk to watch, returning to the side after nearly 12 months off due to a torn Achilles. Already she is showing her importance in the team, having played an impressive game against the Thunder last week with 22 disposals and five tackles.
The Pies will also need to keep an eye on Rosie Dillon, who had a best-on-ground performance in the semi-final match last year against the Pies. Dillon plays a huge role in the Hawks midfield and will be one to stop come Saturday’s game.
With both teams looking to redeem themselves after suffering Round 1 losses, Saturday will no doubt be a heated clash to get the four points.
