Hawthorn’s VFLW Coach Paddy Hill says there are a few things the team needs to work on during this week, having suffered a disappointing 22-point loss to the Thunder on Sunday.

“The Northern Territory are a very good side and they were clearly the better side on the day.

“We gifted them a few goals and we were very ‘un-Hawthorn’ like in how we went about defending the ground.”

Ahead of the season opener, Paddy’s message to the girls was to play a game that “suits”.

“We wanted to bring our DNA. We’ve been working really hard in the off-season and just slightly adapting our game plan and we wanted them to bring that and for the most part they did it.

“There are a few teething problems, a bit of over correction in areas, but I'm sure we’ll be better next week.”

After the loss on Sunday, Paddy’s focus shifted to the week ahead and the game against Collingwood.

“We've just gotta get ourselves back up, get fit and we’ve got to work on some of those areas where we went wrong. Collingwood are a side that finished top of the ladder last year so we don't get any easy games.

“We’ll go back, work on those issues and see what we can produce next week.”

The Hawks will also soon be buoyed by the return of AFLW and Premiership players Rebecca Beeson, Sarah Perkins, Phoebe McWilliams and Jayde Van Dyk, who are yet to don the brown and gold for the 2019 season.

Hawthorn’s match against Collingwood will be this Saturday, May 18, at Victoria Park at 2:00pm.
