This weekend’s Blue Ribbon Cup is the game Jack Scrimshaw has had circled on his calendar since he became a Hawk in October last year.
Scrimshaw is best mates with Jimmy Miller, the son of Senior Constable Rodney Miller who was shot and killed whilst on duty alongside Sergeant Gary Silk in 1998.
The pair have since attended almost each year since the commemorative game, which is dedicated to those who have lost their lives while on duty, began in 1999.
“I reckon I've been to every one up with Jimmy up until I was drafted,” Scrimshaw said.
“We used to go there together and hand out the medals after the game so to be playing in it now is really special.”
Scrimshaw said his fondest memories of the Blue Ribbon Cup revolve around presenting medals to the likes of Lance Franklin and Cyril Rioli.
“It was just awesome to be a part of it.
“We used to go down to the rooms afterwards and see the boys sing the song, because they used to get on top of the Saints.”
The 20-year-old defender will set his sights on helping the Hawks to their third win of the season when Hawthorn takes on St Kilda at Marvel Stadium this Sunday at 3.20pm.
