As Luke Breust booted home his fourth goal of the game in the 25-minute mark of the last quarter on Saturday night, he did many things.

The goal put an exclamation mark on an impressive, season-opening victory for the Hawks.

It highlighted the old firm of Breust, Jack Gunston (two goals), Jarryd Roughead (one) and Cyril Rioli (one) were back in town.

And it also helped the Hawks surpass the 100-point mark in their first outing of the year.

The latter may not seem like an overly notable achievement but a look back at the Hawks’ form of years gone by will prove that it is cause for excitement.

In 2017, Hawthorn broke the triple-digit threshold on just five occasions, in Round 5 against West Coast, Round 8 against Brisbane, Round 15 against Collingwood, Round 18 against Fremantle and Round 21 against North Melbourne.

A keen observer will tell you that all five of those games ended in Hawthorn wins.

There is a clear correlation between the side reaching 100 points and singing the song at the end of the game.

In 2016, the Hawks hit the 100-point mark eight times for eight wins.

In 2015, they reached 100 points 16 times for 16 wins.

In 2014, 16 times for 16 wins.

In 2013, 18 times for 18 wins.

In 2012, 18 times for 17 wins and one two-point loss!

Add it all up and, in the past 102 games the Hawks have reached the 100-point threshold, they have been victors 101 times.

It is an incredible record that is a tribute to the offensive force that Hawthorn has possessed over the past eight seasons.

Here’s hoping that the Hawks can continue to extend this streak further into 2018, and here's to many more 100+ point games.
