The first visitors to the Hawks Museum for 2018 were waiting patiently for the doors to open on Monday January 15, the Museum’s first day back from the Summer break. Brad McKay and Leigh Hapgood were down from Queensland for the Australian Open tennis, but their first stop of the day was to Waverley Park and the Hawks Museum. We were very happy to see such an enthusiastic start to the New Year. In fact, we must apologise to those loyal Hawks who may not have learned of our slightly later return and hoped to visit before the Museum reopened.
Each new season brings new displays to the Hawks Museum. One display to debut early in 2018 will highlight Stuart Dew, Cyril Rioli and Mark Williams, three players who stood up to be counted during that magical six minutes in the third quarter of the 2008 Grand Final. This tenth anniversary tribute will be seen in the Museum’s ‘They Made the Brown & Gold’ display. So, watch this space!
Quite a few of our early bird visitors have been Friends of the Hawks Museum, renewing their Museum memberships and receiving their 2018 Friends badges. Each Friend receives unlimited entry to the Hawks Museum for the year, a collectable 2018 Friends badge, an invitation to the annual Friends Function and a copy of the 2018 Museum in Review. It remains $15 to join and this season we are aiming to break our record membership of 882 Friends. If you would like to become a Friend of the Hawks Museum call us on (03) 9535 3075, email us at hawksmuseum@hawthornfc.com.au or visit the Hawks Museum at Waverley Park.
