Jack Gunston could be set to become the Hawks’ 38^th player to be named All Australian when the team is announced on Wednesday night.

Gunston has been named alongside teammates Tom Mitchell and Luke Breust in the 40-man squad after a stellar 2018 home and away season that netted 48 goals and an average of 17.9 disposals and 5.4 marks a game.

While Breust (2014) and Mitchell (2017) have previously received the honour, this would be Gunston’s first All-Australian guernsey, despite being named in the extended squad three times previously, and the Hawks’ 38^th individual player to receive such.

Two other current Hawks have also previously been named All Australian with four-time premiership pair Jarryd Roughead (2013, 2014) and Grant Birchall (2012) both handed the accolade, as has the recently-retired Cyril Rioli (2012, 2015, 2016).

Melbourne’s Jordan Lewis (2014) and Sydney’s Lance Franklin (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012) were both also named All Australian during their time with the Hawks.

Of the 37 Hawks to be named however, Brownlow medallist John Platten leads the way with five All-Australian guernseys with fellow club legends Chris Langford (four), Jason Dunstall (four) and Shane Crawford (four) close behind.
