Hawthorn Football Club presented the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) with a cheque for over $10,000 on Tuesday.
The donation was raised from the online auction of Hawthorn's match-worn Indigenous Round guernseys.
The ILF is one of the programs supported by Hawthorn’s Indigenous Program, made possible through the support of the Epic Good Foundation.
Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli and Stuart Giles, founder of the Epic Good Foundation, presented the cheque to ILF life-time ambassador and author, Dr Anita Heiss.
Heiss said the donation would greatly benefit the work of the ILF.
"A donation of this size will go a long way in getting books in the hands of Indigenous children in some of our most disadvantaged remote communities," Heiss said.
"On behalf of ILF I would like to thank Hawthorn Football Club for their generous donation and their commitment to assisting us in lifting literacy levels of Indigenous children so they can have all the opportunities that being able to read can bring."
Rioli said he was thrilled to see the donation going to such an important cause.
"It's fantastic to be able to contribute such a significant donation to the ILF and to play a role in instilling a love of reading into young Indigenous kids," Rioli said.
