Before Peter Knights is elevated to Hawthorn 'Legend' status at next week's Mid Season Ball, we are reflecting on our seven current Hawthorn Legends to remind fans of how incredibly special and accomplished this group is.
Michael Tuck
Michael Tuck holds every record a footballer strives for at Hawthorn.
Most senior games played for the club (426), most finals (39), most grand finals (11) and most premierships (7), needless to say Tuck’s playing career achievements are unrivalled by any player in the history of the club, let alone the game.
Tuck played throughout a golden era at Hawthorn, taking his place in a midfield beside Don Scott and Leigh Matthews, with all three gaining selection into the starting midfield of Hawthorn’s Team of the Century.
When Tuck was appointed club captain in 1986, he had already won three premierships (1976, 1978, 1983), but over his next six seasons at the helm, Tuck led the Hawks to four more premierships (1986, 1988, 1989, 1991).
Despite famously never winning a club best and fairest, Tuck’s second-place finish in seven different seasons spoke to the level of consistency and longevity that underlined a wonderful career in the brown and gold.
