The changes
West Coast have made two changes ahead of tonight’s clash with Hawthorn at Domain Stadium in Perth.
Lewis Jetta and Jackson Nelson have been brought into the Eagles’ 22, while Simon Tunbridge (suspension) and Tom Barrass (leg injury) have been left out – the Eagles picking close to their best side for the clash with the reigning premiers.
What to expect
West Coast were plucky on the road last week, staying with a red hot GWS side to snatch victory in the dying seconds thanks to a Nic Naitanui goal.
Their midfield was particularly potent - Luke Shuey dominated the game with 38 disposals and two goals and was ably supported by Andrew Gaff (29 disposals) and Matt Priddis (26 disposals).
The return of Nic Naitanui since mid-year foot surgery seems to have revitalised the Eagles – particularly in the midfield where he provides exceptional ruck work and is capable of providing his team with clean breakaways from stoppages.
West Coast also had a good spread of goal kickers last week, with Josh Kennedy booting three goals and seven other players hitting the scoreboard.
Their thrilling win last week keeps their top four aspirations alive, and they will be full of confidence heading into tonight’s match.
Players to watch
Andrew Gaff is a crucial piece of West Coast’s midfield puzzle, and he was particularly effective against the Giants last week.
The wingman had 29 touches but also six rebound 50s and served as an important link in the chain as the Eagles moved the ball forward.
Mark LeCras finished with 13 disposals and two goals last week, but could have kicked a few more, finishing with 2.4 for the night.
The Hawks will want to limit his scoring opportunities if they are to contain West Coast to a modest score.
