The AFL captains have again named Hawthorn as one of the teams to beat this year.

Every captain named the Hawks as a team that they thought would be finishing inside the top eight, along with Fremantle, Geelong and last year’s runners-up, West Coast.

Opposition skippers also tipped the Hawks to be playing off in the big dance come season’s end, with seven captains believing Hawthorn’s list has what it takes to reach the Grand Final in 2016 and contend for a four-peat.

However, while the competition's leaders tipped the Hawks for team success, no Hawthorn players featured in the votes for individual awards.

Patrick Dangerfield (four votes), Gary Ablett, Nat Fyfe and Daniel Hannebery (all three votes) were voted as the players most likely to contend for the Brownlow Medal.

West Coast’s Josh Kennedy (seven votes) and Lance Franklin (four votes) were the favourites among the AFL’s captains to win the Coleman Medal. The captains rated Sydney’s Callum Mills as the most likely NAB Rising Star winner.

Aside from Jarryd Roughead winning his first Coleman Medal in 2013, the Hawks haven’t had a winner of any of these awards in recent years. Sam Mitchell has always featured highly in Brownlow Medal voting, but has been narrowly pipped on a number of occasions.
