Not hungry enough. A big final term from the Giants sees them post a 10-point win - their first-ever win against us.

The Rundown

It was a shock upset in round six last year, with the GWS coming from the clouds to upset Hawthorn by 10 points at Spotless Stadium.

Despite leading by 10 points at the final change, a seven-goal haul from key forward Jeremy Cameron was enough to power the Giants to their first win over the Hawks in the expansion club’s short history.

The Hawks led by as much as four goals midway through the second quarter, but some missed opportunities in front of goal in the second half left the door ajar for the young Giants side to take away what coach Leon Cameron called ‘a really significant win’.

The Star

Shaun Burgoyne stood up in the absence of Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis, collecting 31 disposals at 90 percent efficiency and kicking a goal.

Sam Mitchell (34 disposals and five clearances), Isaac Smith (29 touches and two goals) and Grant Birchall (29 disposals) were all prominent for the Hawks.

The Moment

Gathering the ball on centre wing, Billy Hartung sprinted away from Cam McCarthy and after two running bounces kicked a great goal from 40 metres out.

The Coach

“We were beaten by a hungrier side tonight.” – Alastair Clarkson
