Hawthorn Football Club CEO Stuart Fox will travel to America to attend Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Fox will undertake a six week leadership program which focuses on strengthening business fundamentals and fostering innovation.

President Richard Garvey said it is the perfect time for Fox to pursue his own outside learning.

“After six years at the helm we think it is the perfect time for Stuart to make the trip to Stanford,” said Garvey.

“This course will give him time to reflect on the work he has done for the club and learn from other talented business leaders from around the world.

"Having successfully overseen the development and implementation of the club’s current business plan ‘All for One’, Stuart will again lead the development of our new five-year strategic plan and we believe his learnings from Stanford will be highly advantageous during this process.

“Our football department is often looking at innovative practices from sporting organisations around the globe and it’s important that our administration staff do the same from a business perspective.”

Fox will join a list of Hawthorn Football Club senior management staff who have undertaken professional development abroad. Several members of the senior executive team have previously visited Harvard to undertake similar programs, including Alastair Clarkson.

General Manager of Finance, Tim Silvers, will act as interim CEO in Fox's absence.
