Hawthorn draftee Kade Stewart has been focusing on the little things since joining the club this year.
After making the move from WAFL club South Fremantle following his selection in the 2015 rookie draft, Stewart has been adjusting to life at the elite level.
Stewart entered the club weighing only 70 kilograms but has been pleased with the progress he has made so far this pre-season.
He credits this smooth transition to the club’s coaching and conditioning staff as well as the senior players who have acted as mentors for the 19-year-old.
“I’ve been really happy with what I have been able to achieve since starting at the club,” Stewart told hawthornfc.com.au.
“The conditioning staff manage each player really well, so I have been able to complete most of the pre-season workload, which is pretty good for a first year player.
“I’ve just been focusing on improving my fitness and strength, and I already feel a lot stronger and solid through the core since my first day,” he said.
Stewart has also had no issue fitting in around the club with the likes of Mitchell, Lewis and Hodge taking him under their wing.
“The boys have been awesome, they make you feel so welcome as soon as you arrive at the club,” Stewart said.
“Even if you mess something up out on the field, the boys have a really good way of letting you know what you did wrong and how to improve it.
“You watch these guys growing up and it’s just great to see first-hand how they tackle their training and are constantly striving to improve themselves,” he said.
As Round 1 beckons Stewart is keeping things simple and focusing on getting his body in the best shape possible.
“I’ll just keep doing the little things and see what that brings me, because it’s the little things that can bring big rewards as well.”
