Was Jordan Lewis’ 250^th AFL match the best 250^th match in Hawthorn history?

It was certainly record-breaking.

Lewis set a new AFL/VFL record for the most disposals in a 250^th game, with his massive total of 42 against the Brisbane Lions surpassing Scott Thompson’s total of 38, which he tallied for Adelaide against GWS Giants in 2014.

It was a spectacular performance from the 30-year-old, who became the 13^th player to play 250 games for Hawthorn.

Also the Hawks’ stand-in skipper, Lewis led from the front across all four quarters. He had 23 disposals at the major break, and another 19 in the second half, highlighting his consistency.

He also finished with nine clearances, six tackles and a goal.

How does it stack up to other 250-game milestones?

There have been some impressive ones at Hawthorn.

Michael Tuck had 31 disposals and kicked three goals in a 47-point win against Footscray in 1984 and Don Scott had 21 disposals and kicked three goals in a 94-point win against South Melbourne in 1979.

Gary Ayres had 29 touches in a 56-point win against Fitzroy in 1992, Jason Dunstall snagged four in his 250^th, against Fremantle in 1997, and John Platten racked up 34 disposals and three goals against Port Adelaide later that year.

Peter Knights had 23 possessions and two goals against St Kilda in 1984, while Russell Greene had 29 disposals against Footscray in the 1985 qualifying final.

In more recent years, Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell have also had impressive milestone matches – Hodge collecting 35 disposals in the 2014 Grand Final win (which earned him the Norm Smith Medal) and Mitchell racking up 36 disposals in an 11-goal win against Richmond in 2014.
