Review
Taking the reins from Brian Lake as Hawthorn’s number one key defender, James Frawley enjoyed a terrific season in his second year at Waverley.
Frawley blanketed some of the best forwards in the competition in 2016, keeping Josh Kennedy to one goal in Round 2 as well as Charlie Dixon and Lance Franklin goalless in Round 16 and 17 respectively.
He also played an enormous amount of game time during the season, playing less than 100% of game time on just four occasions this year through 22 games.
His ability to find the ball as a key defender was also a highlight, as he becomes increasingly familiar with Hawthorn’s game style.
His continued improvement in 2017 will allow the Hawks to develop the likes of Kaiden Brand as Hawthorn look to blood their next generation of players.
A word from: Adem Yze
“Chip had a really consistent season to play 22 games.
“The way that he played on some of the best forwards in the competition each week, he did that at a really high level and in doing so gained a lot of trust from his team mates in his second year at Hawthorn.
“He’s starting to really understand and play within a really tight backline. He’s a pillar for us down there and had a really strong year.”
