This year’s Round 7 match against St Kilda was the 16th time the two clubs played off for the Blue Ribbon Cup.

Established in 1999 after the murders of Victoria Police officers Sergeant Gary Silk and Senior Constable Rodney Miller, the cup not only perpetuates the memories of these two police men, but serves as an opportunity to remember all of those who have died in the line of duty.

The Club has developed a strong relationship with the Silk and Miller families over the years. Jimmy Miller, the son of Constable Rodney Miller who is now 16 years old, attended training this year as our Number 1 Fan, running water for the team and enjoying special treatment including an exclusive look inside the Ricoh Centre.

The families presented the medals to the players post match, and this year Jimmy presented the Blue Ribbon Cup to winning captain Luke Hodge in the rooms post match.

Deputy Commissioner Lucinda Nolan presented the Silk Miller Memorial Medal for best on ground to Shaun Burgoyne and enjoyed mingling in the rooms after the match, meeting her favourite player, Josh Gibson.
