HAWTHORN ruckman/forward Sam Grimley has won the VFL’s Frosty Miller Medal as the league’s leading goal kicker.
Grimley tied for the award with Port Melbourne’s Daniel Connors with 38 goals for the year.
The Hawk, who made his senior debut last season finished the home-and-away rounds with a bang, booting 13 goals in Box Hill’s final two matches.
He booted seven in the Hawks’ thumping 129-point win over Northern Blues on Saturday and six the week before in the win over Bendigo.
The 199cm Hawk is a tough match-up for the opposition, with his athleticism one of his biggest strengths.
Grimley started the season well with three goals from 13 disposals in the Round 1 win over Werribee before booting four against the Cats in Round 3.
He has been a steady source of goals for Box Hill throughout the season, held goalless in just one of his 15 matches this year.
He kicked multiple goals in 10 of those 15 games.
Grimley’s haul of 38 goals is a career-best, up from 28 goals from 17 VFL games last year.
Box Hill qualified for the finals in fourth position with 13 wins, four losses and a draw.
The Hawks take on Port Melbourne at North Port Oval in the first Qualifying Final on Saturday at 2.10pm.
