STAR West Coast Eagle Adam Selwood will miss Friday night’s must-win clash against Hawthorn.

Selwood was ruled out of the clash by Coach John Worsfold on Tuesday, stating his best run-with player is suffering from a back complaint.

"His back has been giving him issues throughout this season. It doesn't take much to flare it up," Worsfold said.

The brother of teammates Scott and Geelong’s Joel, Selwood is West Coast’s best tagger, capable of playing roles across all lines, be it in the midfield, down back or a defensive role up forward.

With the Hawks boasting a number of talented players in good form, Selwood is a big loss for the Eagles who need to win this game to move back into the top eight.

They currently sit in ninth position on percentage, having played one less match than Carlton who sit in eighth spot.

Selwood could have been set for a role on gun small forward Luke Breust, midfielder Sam Mitchell or even a defensive role up forward on Hawks half back, Grant Birchall.

Prized recruit Sharrod Wellingham will also miss the game with an ankle injury.

Wellingham has played just three games for the Eagles since crossing from Collingwood via a trade at the end of last season.

The Eagles could regain up to five star players for the game, however, find out who here.
